                                 THE MISTRESS PALAVER:  EPISODE 1.
It is a very difficult thing to be in love with a beautiful woman. Your very soul is threatened. You are never at ease. The day Jack met Christie he was not himself again. It was the tradition of the bank to show the new starters around the building. When Jack was requested to take the new members of staff around the building he was reluctant. Half way through the session his eyes caught the beauty of Christie. It was a love at first sight. He was stupefied. He could not take control of himself. That afternoon he offered to buy her lunch at the staff canteen. Christie willingly came over. Jack felt a king in the company of a goddess like Christie. Christies was a rare beauty. Her tall elegant body made her tower over the rest of the girls. His father’s affluence could be seen openly on her from the clothes she wore. Jack placed an order for two. At the table he could not propose love, he was not even sure he remembered what he said. But all the same there was some form of attachment. Back at his table, he made series of mistakes. “Jack is everything okay?” His line manager asked as all his calculations were wrong.
Back home that evening he could not finish his food. He found fault with everything his wife Amie did. He told his mum about Christie. “My son it is a difficult thing to be in love with a beautiful woman, for everyone wants her. Let go as you are already married.” Jack felt very proud to be able to win the heart of Christie. It was at this time he realised he actually did not mention anything about his love and affection towards her. He hoped her body would understand the chemistry of his.
Back in the office the next day, Jack was all smiles. Christie came in like a royal attending coronation. The telephone on Jacks’ table rang, he picked it up. “Would you come to my office.” The voice at the other end sounded. “Yes sir,” he replied and the line cut off. In the manager’s office he was told to help clear up the archives located in the basement. That means he would not have the chance to sit in the main open office where probably Christie would be. It had been a long day packing up things in the basement.
Back home he told his mother about the day’s events. He refused to come to a cease-fire with Amie. They did not talk to each other. He could not sleep the night. So he decided to give Christie a call just to say good night but Amie was in the way. His hands were shaking terribly, his voice was jerky. He murmured few words and came out of the bed. He went to the sitting room. Amie was not very sure what the problem could be. He stepped out of the bedroom in to the back garden. He put a call through to Christie; the call went in to answering machine. He tried two more times but no response. He was worried. He was scared to call the land line else he would wake up the whole household. He was not sure what to do. He went out in his car. He bashed one of the headlights against the garage door post. He entered the main road at speed without looking for the onward coming cars. The driver behind jammed his brake and hooted loudly in the deep night. Jack pushed the old merc as he revved the gas pedal.
At Christies’ he found the bedroom light was on. Many thoughts went through Jacks’ mind relating to the bank manager who sent him to the archive. He sat in the car. He did not realise time. He was not sure if he slept. He passed his hands over his face and watched the time on the dash board. It read five in the morning. He rushed home. Amie was ready for a fight. She said, “Did everything go well?”  Jack brushed passed. She pulled him the collar of his shirt. He turned round and lashed a blow at Amie sending over the TV set. Both woman and Telly came crashing causing a huge noise. The neighbours called in the police. Back at the office, Jack made more mistakes as he could not concentrate. Christie was not at work. Jack was scared to find out why she did not come from the HR. He was nervous and spilled coffee all over his table. Everyone was conscious of Jacks plight. “Jack you can go home and come back tomorrow” his line manager ordered him. He was scared of Amie.
